Buffalo Cauliflower Taco Recipe

Ingredients for

Cauliflower batter

1/2 cup flour

1/2 cup corn meal

1/2 tbs old bay

1/2 tsp garlic, onion ,& mustard powder

1/2 tablespoon dried parsley

1/2 plus 1/4 cup water

1 tablespoon liquid smoke

1 tsp turmeric

Add all ingredients to a bowl & mix well. Set aside to prepare the cauliflower.

Ingredients for cauliflower

2 full cups of medium size cauliflower florets

Note: cut off the stems

Here’s a pic

Pour the cauliflower in the batter and toss until all cauliflower is fully coated.

Air Fryer Directions

Coat the bottom of the air fryer with a tiny bit of olive oil or grape seed oil to prevent batter from sticking.

Put the coated cauliflower in the air fryer at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

Note: all the cauliflower will not be able to fit at one time. Place the cauliflower in the air fryer not letting them touch. I usually can fit about 8-9 depending on the size.

Deep frying Directions

Fill a deep pan half way with your preferred oil. Tip: high heat oil is the best to use like grape seed, peanut, safflower & sunflower.

Coat the cauliflower & fry until golden brown.

Place on a paper towel to get rid of extra oil.

When all the cauliflower is air fried or deep fried, put them in a large bowl and set aside as you prepare the buffalo sauce. You can also use store bought buffalo sauce but I prefer to make my own.

Buffalo sauce recipe:

1/4 cup hot sauce

3 tablespoons of vegan butter ( I use earth balance)

1/2 tsp garlic powder

Note: This makes enough to coat all the cauliflower. If you desire to make more to go on top of your taco, double this recipe.

Put all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.

Directions for Air Fryer

Pour sauce over the cauliflower and toss gently until all cauliflower is coated.

Put cauliflower in air fry again on 350 degrees for 3 minutes to allow the sauce to stick. Remember to not put all the cauliflower in at once but do it in portions making sure they are spaced out.

Directions for deep frying

After all the cauliflower is done, pour buffalo sauce over cauliflower. You can leave it as is or put it in the oven for about 10 minutes to allow the sauce to stick.

When all your cauliflower is done it’s time to prepare your taco.

Note: you can coat your cauliflower again in the sauce or you can add the sauce on top of your taco.

Warm your flour tortillas in a pan with a little bit of butter to make them nice and warm and a little crispy. Don’t over toast them. Make sure you are able to bend them in a taco form.

Ingredients for taco assembling

Red cabbage

Grape tomatoes

Lime juice

Ranch dressing

Flour tortilla

Optional: red onion

Note: you can add any extra ingredients you desire like avocado and cilantro.

Assemble your taco like so:

Buffalo cauliflower

Grape tomatoes

Red cabbage

Vegan ranch dressing

Lime juice

Optional: more buffalo sauce or tiny pieces of red onion

Overall Recipe Notes: if you don’t have a air fryer you can use the oven on 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes (or until batter is secured on the Cauliflower), add the sauce and put it back in the oven on 350degrees for 3-5 minutes. Line your baking tray with parchment paper and then put the cauliflower on the baking tray.

This recipe will make about 4-5 tacos depending on how many cauliflowers you put in your taco.

If you have leftover cauliflower you can store them in a airtight container for a day and warm them in the air fryer or oven.

If you eat the buffalo cauliflower on it’s own, it’s good to dip them in vegan ranch or top them on your salad. So delicious.
